KEREN KLITA - JERUSALEM
KEREN KLITA - JERUSALEM
Aid for Russian Immigrants A Recipient of the Presidential Award for Voluntary Service KEREN KLITA, founded in 1987 when the gates of Russia slowly began to open, is a 100% volunteer organization in Jerusalem with 800 volunteers. Administrative expenses are less than 2% of our annual budget. There is no office (each volunteer works from home) and no paid administrative staff. KEREN KLITA is dedicated to assisting new immigrants from the former Soviet Union during their first years in Jerusalem. KEREN KLITA provides a mix of personal welcome from an assigned volunteer who befriends the family, together with practical help not available through any government agency. Through our network of 50 area coordinators responsible for the 25 areas into which we have divided the city and our other volunteers, KEREN KLITA reaches out to immigrant families on a personal basis. We offer help through our 21 programs which nurture new immigrants from the cradle to the grave. Our volunteers' frequent visits and supportive relationships help to minimize their shock of moving to a new home and a different culture.
